Placement Season - My Experience

I am a student of IT Engineering who recently grabbed a placement with a good enough package, Writing this blog to share my thoughts on placement season as a whole. What were my preconceptions and what it actually is?

The first step into college began with ambitions of bagging a good package, I was always too anxious about placements. being the eldest boy in the family who made it to college paying heavy fees I used to carry that burden of responsibility. I was sincere from the beginning although I would admit I wasn't in the first semester but took over later. semesters by semesters passed and now I am in the 7th semester writing this blog.

Placements are an important time of anybody's educational journey. We went all the way to junior kg, senior kg, 1st standard, 10th, 12th science, JEE, CET and then finally 4 years of engineering it was all for a good job and a good package. But the reality is often disappointing we see, I find placements are more of a function of luck than it is of hard work/talent.

I think getting a high-paying job right after college is not what everyone gets. Also, it is a continuous process rather than just a college placement process. These are the steps to be followed :

1) The very first thing needed to bag a high-paying job is Engineering (If you are from the middle/lower middle class and don't have enough money to fund a Medical degree in such case Engineering is the best choice to be employable right after graduation. Engineers get paid well from the initial stage of their carrier).

2) Next important thing is to choose your stream and college wisely, in my opinion, if you are getting into top NITs and IITs go for any engineering stream you want to(To bag the highest paying job CS is the only option). But if your college is not NIT or IIT then going for CS/IT is only fruitful.

3) Know what subjects are important from the placement scenario, which are your core subjects usually taught in the 2nd year. Study those subjects well.

4) Make some good projects to showcase on resumes, and learn the development of any kind(for CS students).

That's it, now depending on how well your DSA(Data Structures and Algorithms one of the core subjects) is you deserve a package above 8 LPA to even 45 LPA! For CS students if you know core subjects you can grab a package above 8 LPA and depending on your study of DSA you can touch the sky, trust me DSA is the only deciding factor. It literally will take you from zero to hero.

This was for people who choose Engineering and are in good colleges(by good I mean if they provide good placement opportunities) now for the people who are not in good colleges(Even if you are in tier 3 college in CS/IT branch it's still good enough) or haven't done engineering. For them, it's  2x tougher. Mainly because companies arrange relatively tough tests(aptitude, coding) for off-campus hiring to qualify for the interview round. Once you made it to the interview round then it's the same difficulty level, but qualifying for the entry test is difficult.
